WATER CANYON PROJECT – Nevada

The Water Canyon Project is located in Lander County, Nevada, approximately 14 miles east of the town of Battle Mountain and along side Interstate Highway 80. The property consists of about 2600 acres (4 square miles) of fee lands and unpatented mining claims situated from 2 to 5 miles north of Newmont's Mule Canyon gold mine. The north-northwest structures that localized the Mule Canyon ore bodies continue as major lineaments onto the Water Canyon property.

The private lands and unpatented claims that make up the Water Canyon project are located from two to five miles north of the Main, West, and Northwest Pits of the Mule Canyon gold mine.  Gold Fields Mining Corporation discovered the Mule Canyon mine in August 1986, and the private lands and unpatented claims were consolidated following Santa Fe Pacific Gold Company’s acquisition of Gold Fields in 1993.  Newmont Gold Co. acquired the properties in 1997 as a result of their merger with Santa Fe.

Gold Fields and Santa Fe, as part of their exploration in Water Canyon north of the Mule Canyon mine, completed geophysical surveys, geochemical surveys, geological mapping, and reverse circulation (RC) drilling on the property.  Most drill holes were oriented either due east or due west, often along drill fences, targeting extensions of the north striking structures hosting the Mule Canyon orebodies.

Between 1986 and 1993, Gold Fields conducted ten east-west lines of dipole-dipole IP-Resistivity surveys, and drilling followed (circa 1990) with nine angle RC holes.  Best result was 0.06 ounces per ton (opt) gold over a 10 foot interval.  These drill holes were located east of and therefore missed a northwest trending IP anomaly which remains undrilled to this day.  Gold Fields also drilled eight angle RC holes during 1990.

In 1993 and 1994, Santa Fe followed-up the Gold Fields drilling with ten additional 100’ dipole-dipole, east-west IP-Resistivity lines, geologic mapping, rock-chip sampling and twenty angle RC holes.  Best result 130 ppb Au over a 40 foot interval including 730 ppb over 5 feet.

In late 1994, Santa Fe drilled 6 angle RC holes along two east-west fences spaced 1000 feet apart.  Along the northern fence, two holes intercepted five foot intervals of 0.062 opt gold and 0.108 opt gold, respectively, both open 2000 feet to the north.  One hole intersected 1.023 ppm Au over 5’ from 385’-390’ and 1.041 ppm Au over 5’ from 635’-640’, open 3000’ south.

The Water Canyon project represents the best acquisition yet by the Company, and places us on trend with numerous ore bodies and several substantial gold mines of the multi-million ounce size. Once the definitive agreement with Newmont has been signed, a comprehensive exploration program will be planned for this property.
